In the streets of Kazimierz, apart from the famous monuments of Jewish culture described in guidebooks, you can still find forgotten synagogues and prayer houses, Hebrew and Yiddish inscriptions on the walls, as well as tiny elements which indicate the former position of mezuzahs, which often escape our attention. They also talk of the inhabitants who no longer exist and may provide a contribution to a discussion about them. The location of the tell-tale signs of mezuzahs and an attempt to “sensitize the eye” to their disappearing presence in the city will be a pretext for a micro-historical story about the Jewish inhabitants of Kraków. Biographies of people associated with specific addresses will also serve to take a broader look at the various currents of Judaism which were present in pre-war Kraków.
