About the performance
“I hold my breath and wonder what it would feel like to just stop.”
Dear Wendy is a new autobiographical monodrama written and performed by Cat Johnston, marking both the writer’s debut and her acting debut. The performance will have its world premiere at the festival.
Part letter, part spoken-word confession, and part visceral sensory experience, the piece explores breathing as both a physical process and a deeply personal and political act. Moving through memory and guided exhalation, it reflects on identity, vulnerability, and the search for meaning in a world that often feels distant and unresponsive.
Intimate and quietly confronting, Dear Wendy examines what it means to take up space, to find one’s voice, and to hold onto moments of clarity and hope. The average person takes around 20,000 breaths a day—the performance invites us to finally notice them.
